Consultation – Education, Assessment & Care Planning

This comprehensive consultation performed by a certified lymphatic therapist  (CLT) is designed to evaluate your lymphatic health, identify areas of swelling, fluid retention, fibrosis, or lymphatic congestion, and provide individualized education and professional recommendations. During your visit, we will complete a thorough review of your medical history, surgical background, cancer treatments, symptoms, and lifestyle factors, followed by a detailed hands-on lymphedema and lymphatic assessment.

You will receive personalized guidance on lymphedema management, manual lymphatic drainage support, compression therapy education, skin care, movement, and self-care techniques to help reduce swelling, improve circulation, and support optimal lymphatic function. This consultation is ideal for individuals who are newly diagnosed with lymphedema, post-surgical patients, cancer survivors, or anyone experiencing chronic swelling and seeking expert lymphatic care.

Our goal is to empower you with the knowledge, tools, and treatment plan needed to confidently manage your condition and improve your quality of life.

Who this session is for

Anyone starting care with us, and anyone who has been told they have lymphedema or lipedema and wants to understand what that means in practice. It is also the right starting point if you have been managing swelling on your own and want a professional assessment.

What happens in the session

Up to thirty minutes, in person or by video. Your therapist takes a history, looks at what is actually happening, and explains what she is seeing in plain language. You leave with a written plan: what treatment would involve, roughly how often, what you can do at home, and what compression — if any — would help. If a video visit is enough for your situation, you do not need to travel for it.

How to prepare

Bring anything relevant: previous imaging or notes, the name of your surgeon or physician, and any compression garments you already own even if you have stopped wearing them. Photographs of the area at its worst are genuinely useful if the swelling varies through the day.

How many sessions you may need

The consultation is a single appointment. What follows depends entirely on the assessment, and you will know the recommendation before you leave rather than afterwards.

Questions people ask

Is the consultation a treatment session?

No. It is assessment, education and planning. If you want treatment as well, book a treatment session separately — that keeps the consultation unhurried.

Can this be done by video?

Yes, for many situations. A video visit covers history, education and planning well. Some assessments need hands and eyes on the area, and your therapist will say so if that is the case.

What will I leave with?

A clear picture of what is going on, what treatment would involve, what you can do at home between appointments, and guidance on compression if it applies to you.
